This should be interesting. What coach has to say about the "unsuitable" terms to depict the weightlifting movements.

"The thing I want to address is, the terms
I used to think it's about technique, but it's got nothing to do with technique
It's this term, it's this word. Balance.
There's no such thing as balance.
Think about it, what is balance?
What if something is crushing you from the top? (Pause)
You resist it?
Correct, resist cannot be "balance".
In Chinese, this is "Zhe zhen" or resist.
In Cantonese, I said "Deng zhu"
"He demonstrates how he resists his weight when leaning on it"
The problem is people can't balance, because they're soft when receiving
This term isn inaccurate. It cannot be balance
I thought, and said "This is wrong" This word....I don't know, who first used the word balance. We need to change this word.

Another is high pull. High pull doesn't have this "lift" feeling
I changed it saying this is called, "Lift".
When I say lift, you instantly understand that "lift" is like this
I don't have to tell you your elbow goes up.

Like this word" zhe zhen" how do you say it in English?
Resist? Stop it from falling? English doesn't have the same term
If I said this term, would you understand what it means?
I would, but the word resist feels longer. In Chinese, that's different.

I guess, yes, resist would be the right word.

So next time I tell you, we lift and then resist, would you understand?
So if I explain like this, wouldn't it be much easier to understand?
Balance is unsuitable. I'll say "lift and resist" I won't say it's "balance"
I'll explain that it's a ..."A puncH!" A punch is better. So you won't fall into the hole.

Next time when I teach you, the technique is "lift" and "punch" not balance.
That way you'd know what to do
Another is "lift"
Why do many people tell me "This hurts, that hurts"

Because it's an illogical movement. They throw the elbows out and up. In bodybuilding we do front raises.

Imagine if you did this with 100Kg, front raises all of a sudden? You'll certainly hurt yourself.

In crossfit, how many times do you do this? This is a dangerous movement, if you keep repeating it wrongly. So I won't say high pull anymore. i'll start saying "lift"

Second pull...it's a lift. I won't say "Go up anymore". We've talked so much, I'm not sure if I've helped but think about it. Next time you train, after you've done the extension, you "lift" and think about "punch" and we'll think about it

"My phone's gonna explode coach if you keep talking"

Our next seminar in good old Melbourne.
